Oscar winner and legendary actor, Karl Malden died at the age of 97 (1912-2009) on Wednesday, July 1st 2009. He died due to natural causes surrounded by his family at his home in Brentwood, at Los Angeles. He was played many different roles during his acting, but he was mostly seen in business attire or a military uniform. Malden began in the 1970s with TV series “The Streets of San Francisco” and was the longtime American Express traveler’s-check spokesman. He was one of Hollywood’s strongest and most versatile supporting actors and he won Oscar award by playing his Broadway originated role as Mitch in “A Streetcar Named Desire”. Karl Malden served as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences president from 1989-92 and he also acted in the past years and played a small role in “The West Wing” in 2000. Academy president Sid Ganis told that Karl lived a full rich life as he had the greatest and most loving family and he had a career that has span the spectrum of the arts from theater to film and television.
