Kapadia takes over as new Chief Justice of India

Justice SH Kapadia was Wednesday under oath in as the 38th Chief Justice of India (CJI).

President Pratibha Patil Devisingh administered oath of office and confidentiality Justice Kapadia.

"At a observance for 930 Justice Kapadia was sworn in as Chief Justice of India, said a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"He did and went into the oath of office before the President," the declaration said.

Born 29 September 1947, just months after India's self-government, Chief Justice Kapadia was elevated to the ultimate Court 18 December 2003.
