The second American face transplant patient, 59-year-old undergone dreadful facial injuries when he fell onto the electrified third rail at a Boston train station in 2005. In this accident he lost his nose, upper lip, cheeks, the roof of his mouth, muscle, bone, and nerves. The face transplant is giving him hope.

James Maki: Second US Face Transplant Recipient

Okay guys, now we talks about his face transplants in deep. Have seen James’s face before the surgery? I am sure Children would recoil. Well American James Maki - consideration to be only the third person in the world to have undergone the process. Mr. Maki’s face was blemished in June 2005 when he fell onto the electrified third rail at Ruggles subway station in Boston.

James Makialso lost muscle, bone, and nerves in his face and his right arm was badly burned in the accident. People would recoil when they saw him, so for years he rarely went out. Maki, who grew up in Amherst is also struggle with to speak and eat solid foods.

In Boston, the 17-hour process took place at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. For the surgery, the hospital will not charge Maki and which cost an estimated $200,000. The surgeons donated their time.
