Indy 500 winner Wheldon dies in fiery crash

Dan Wheldon – Indianapolis 500 winner died in a 15-car wreck at the IndyCar season finale at the Las vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. The 33 year old racer was a two-time Indy winner. His death occurred due to his car became trapped in a burning crash near Lap 13, flew over another vehicle and then grounded in a catch fence just outside turn 2. Wheldon was taken away to local hospital by plane. After the accident of wheldon, the race was halted for over 2 hours. When he died from unsurvivable injuries the drivers quit from the race and took part in the five-lap tribute around the oval in his honor.

In the pileup, three other drivers including championship contender Will Power were also injured. Wheldon was known as the world’s best race car driver and had won the IndyCar Series champion and Indianapolis 500 in 2005. The accident emerged when Wade Cunningham’s car changed the direction on the track and JR Hildebrand troop over the left rear of Cunningham’s car. Hildebrand came into view to go airborne and Cunningham’s car shot up into the wall. This was the reason for chain reaction among the cars which was behind him.

In this horrible accident, some of the cars slowed while others did not and others turned in front of Wheldon and Power. This was created a too much chaos on the track. Before the race, drivers had been worried about the high speed 225 mph at the track and it became reality when turn 2 sent cars flying through the air were come into contact, crashing into each other and into the outside wall and catch fence.
