Every year the “Earth Hour” is celebrated on the last Saturday of March and this year it is celebrated on today (March 26, 2011) from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Earth hour is the campaign started by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which aims to spread awareness regarding the threat of developing climate changes of our planet in present time. About 131 countries and territories have registered to participate in today’s Earth Hour. Millions of organization as well as people would turn off their lights today from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm to save the environment. Earth Hour was begun in Sydney and Australia as a small event in 2007. In the following years this action has been raised rapidly among most of the countries in world and turned in a bigger event. Around 74 countries participated in the 2009 Earth Hour and switched off their lights for an hour to save energy. During the last Earth Hour some world’s famous buildings were also seen dark such as Rome's Coliseum, the Sydney Opera House, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square at New York. It is very tough thing to stay in dark without any actions even for one hour. So, do some fun loving activities within this important Hour by enjoying darkness and silence. Besides all these activities, consider some things you should do during an Earth Hour such as power off lightings on exterior side of building and rooftop neon signage, dimming the lights in lobby and reception area as well as close business center equipment, etc. Also, encourage the people surrounding you to turn off their home lights. There are many ways for celebrating an Earth Hour and this is the only time when all might get leisure time from their busy schedules. You can help to our climate by reducing the energy consumption and hence by lowering the emission of carbon in environment.
