General Motors is recalling Cadillac SRX Crossover models in the U.S. because of airbag problem. SRX model used in North America has automatic occupant-sensing system so only that models are covered in the recalls. Export models of Cadillac SRX are excluded from recalls as the key is added in them to disable the passenger side airbag. GM Recalls include over 47,000 Cadillac SRX vehicles. As per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, if there is no passenger in front seat then right side head protection air bag will not inflate in crash. Therefore right-side passenger of rear seat should not be protected and there is a risk to get injure in front or side crush. However no one is injured yet, according to GM. It simply means that Cadillac SRX has not fulfilled the requirements of federal motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 which is particularly related to occupant protection. Cadillac SRX is available in all-wheel drive and front-wheel models with 2.8-liter Turbo V6, 300 horsepower or 3-liter V6, 265 horsepower engine. General Motors will recall Cadillac SRX vehicles from approximately June 17 to solve the problem of sensing system by reprogramming the airbag control unit. |
