The 87 year old Former Nepali Congress president “Girija Prasad Koiral” died on today March 20, 2010 at 12:11 PM after multiple organ failure. His condition had worsened following a bout of diarrhea on Friday morning, three days after he was discharged from a city hospital in Kathmandu. On Wednesday Girija Prasad Koirala was discharged from Marty Ganga Lal Heart Centre after showing signs of improvement and had been living at his daughter Sujata’s residence since then. Koirala had been on ventilator round-the-clock and doctor teams were attending to him at Sujata's house in Mandikhatar area. Party Source Said “Girija Prasad Koirala had a low hemoglobin level and was suffering from bronchitis and lungs problem”. Maoist chairman Prachanda and CPN-UML's Jhalanath Khanal, who is the top leaders of political parties, visited Sujata's residence to enquire about Koirala's health. Koirala had been instrumental in leading the peace process and bringing the Maoists to mainstream politics. Two years ago, he also played a critical role in turning Nepal into a Republic through abolition of 240-year-old monarchy. |
