San Francisco Bay area was hit by two small earthquakes on Thursday at the difference of six hours. These earthquakes take place after nearly twenty two years of the deadly Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. As per the U.S. Geological Survey, earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 hit at 2:31 p.m. about two miles east of Berkeley; and after six hours of it, the same area was jolted by a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 at 8:16 p.m. Any report of damage or injuries after the quake is not received by Berkeley police. Trains were stopped for one minute at the Montgomery Street BART station like the aspect of a statewide earthquake preparedness drill in San Francisco, on Thursday. San Francisco elementary school students and over 8.5 million Californians took part in the country's biggest earthquake drill on Thursday morning. As per Officials at Bay Area Rapid Transit, miner delays about 15 minutes in the system’s trains were experienced on Thursday night after an earthquake because workers examined train tracks, which is a routine process after an earthquake. As per USGS geophysicist Walter Mooney, the second earthquake was determined as an aftershock to the previous quake by Seismologists. |
