Earth will have two Sun temporarily, at least for a week or two in 2012. Betelgeuse, the second biggest star in the Orion constellation is losing mass at a fairly rapid rate which is an indication of gravitational collapse. When this happen the red super-giant, Betelgeuse could explode into a super nova which will create such a blindingly bright, that it would be visible in the sky as a 2nd sun. The explosion of this star may create a black hole at a distance of 1,300 light years from Earth. During that time there may be no night as the explosion will emerge tens of millions of times brighter compared to the sun. If Betelgeuse goes bang, then the earth will be showered with tiny particles known as neutrinos and the earth will be benefited with things such as uranium, silver and gold which are all the heavy elements. Dr Carter said, “They will flood through the Earth and bizarrely enough, even though the supernova we see visually will light up the night sky, 99% of the energy in the supernova is released in these particles that will come through our bodies and through the Earth with absolutely no harm whatsoever”. The supernova will provide elements to the Earth, which is essential for existence and continuity. Video of Betelgeuse, two suns in 2012 from youtube: |
