Couple stoned to death | Andhra Pradesh

A couple, who had run away and married, was stoned to death in what appears to be a case of honor killings in Andhra Pradesh's Nizamabad district.

Enraged residents in the village Krishnajivadi rained stones on the couple by tying them to a pole, police said Thursday.

The macabre incident took place late Wednesday evening in the Telangana region, about 250 km away.

Sunkara Srinivas, 32, belongs to scheduled caste (SC) and 22-year-old Swapna Reddy, who belongs to an upper caste, had run away and married half years ago.

Swapna family was against the alliance that Srinivas was from a lower caste and already married. He had two children, from his first wife.
