Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal

The 23rd elected Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, 63-year-old, told financial news channel CNBC that he will officially announce later on January 6th 2010 his pursuit of fellow Democrat Dodd's seat. Richard Blumenthal tells The Associated Press that he will announce his candidacy at noon Wednesday at Democratic headquarters in Hartford.

In January 2010 Dodd announced that he would not run for reelection in the 2010 midterm elections, Blumenthal told the Associated Press that he will run in the election for the US Senate. Since Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd announced his retirement, Blumenthal is expected to run for his seat.
