According to the rumor, he lost his snowboard control, crashed into a tree at a high rate of speed and died instantly.

The site also stated that ski patrol teams airlifted Pitt to a local hospital after being injured in the crash. The death hoax was begun by a prank site called Global Associated News. The site included a disclaimer at the bottom of the original story that this is 100% fake story. It also included that this site is an entertainment website and the posted story is just for entertainment purpose.
