Border Patrol Agent Robert Wimer Rosas Shot Death

A Border Patrol agent Robert Wimer Rosas was shot and killed on Thursday night while working in a rural area at east of Campo area in San Diego County. The agent was pronounced dead at the scene at about 9:15 p.m., according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Battalion Chief Nick Schuler. The agent was shot in the head.

Authorities said that he tracked suspected unauthorized immigrants or drugs smugglers. U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Daryl Reed said that the agent marked a doubtful group pf people on Thursday night in the Campo area near the Mexican border and called for extra agents to help track them.

Reed also added that the agent followed some of the suspects on his own while the suspicious group split up. Other agents lost radio contact with him shortly after 9 p.m. then heard gunshots. They found the agent, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner's Office said that a man whose body was found near the San Diego River in Mission Bay Park committed suicide. According to FBI special Agent Darrell Foxworth, the FBI is examining, along with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and Border Patrol.

Law enforcement agencies in the U.S and Mexico investigated both sides of the border but failed to find any suspects. Rosas was 30-year –old and was a three-year experienced person who is survived by his wife, a 2-year-old son and an 11-month-old daughter.
