Archaeologists Discovered 1500-Year-Old Church in Israel

A 1,500-year-old church was discovered on Wednesday, in Hirbet Madras in central Israel during excavations by archaeologists. Dropped marble pillars and a nearly pristine 10-meter-long an oddly well-preserved mosaic floor with images of lions, foxes, fish and peacocks is being included in about the size of a basketball court of the 1,500-year-old church. The ancient church was believed to be discovered some months in a chase to arrest gang of serious robbers who had been pundering devastates, which sit on an unpopulated hill not far from an Israeli farming community.

A burial chamber was also found by archaeologists. According to the Antiquities authority the burial chamber might have been venerated as the burial place of the Old Testament prophet Zecharia (Zechariah). But according to reports, the claim has not been verified and is still being studied. Meanwhile, according to the international news websites report, for the protection of the 1,500-year-old church, it will be covered again with soil. It will be open as a tourist site when the funds will be received till then it will remain covered.

Israel is famous for its wealth of archaeological places. Throughout the country, Byzantine, Islamic, Roman, ancient Jewish, Crusader, and other devastates are peppered. In December, the digging at the site was started by Archaeologists. The Amir Ganor is the Israel Antiquities Authority’s dig leader. According to Amir Ganor, the small basilica with an exquisitely festooned floor was active between the fifth and seventh centuries A.D.
