65 passengers in a Maharashtra-bound express train was killed early today and 200 wounded in a Maoist attack that led to the derailment of 13 coaches who were hit by a freight train coming from the opposite direction. The bodies of the passengers were removed from the mangled remains of the critical bus from Howrah-Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express and injured taken out using gas cutters, a South Eastern Railway spokesman. "65 bodies have been found. The toll could go up," West Bengal Home Secretary Samar Ghosh said. The incident happened at 1:30 when the train ran between Khemasoli and Sardiya stations, about 135 km from here, "said South Eastern Railway officials. |
