Image source: www.djproject.org After the Earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) exposed preliminary reports that ascertained the 3.3 magnitude earthquake about 28 miles (45 km) south of Lanai City at a depth of 4.2 miles; however the USGS re-examined its preliminary report and came to conclusion that the magnitude 3.6 earthquake hit at 2:12:45 PM (HST) on Thursday, February 24 which centered 22 miles east-southeast of Honolulu at depth of 11.8 miles (19 km). The Hawaii’s earthquake was centered 22 miles (35 km) from Honolulu, 23 miles (37 km) from Kaneohe Bay, 34 miles (55 km) from Kaunakakai and 38 miles (61 km) from Wahiawa. Any injuries or damage reports are not received, as per The Associated Press. After two and half hours of earthquake, the USGS reported that 684 people felt jolt of the earthquake. One of suffers of earthquake, Katrina Woodcock said that she felt it when she sat at her desk on the 7th floor of office building in Honolulu. She added the shaking continued about five seconds and just one other person in her office felt it. The Hawaiian Islands are sited on dangerous places which are mostly the source of volcanic activities where annually thousands of earthquakes crop up under the Island of Hawaii, said by the USGS. It is common for the Hawaii. Oahu Island has approximately 1 million residents’ population. The island is also place of some military bases with Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The current Hawaii earthquake is less than November’s 4.7 magnitude earthquake. |
