Former “Sopranos” star Lillo Brancato testified in a Bronx Supreme court this morning in the shooting death case of off-duty officer Daniel Enchautegui.

In court  Brancato testified that he did not know his ex-girlfriend’s father Steven Armento had a gun the day they went to drug dealer Kenny Scovotti’s apartment.  According to Brancato, he was suffering from withdrawal symptoms and he knew Scovotti kept a large stash of prescription drugs in his apartment.

Brancato stated that when they got to Scovotti’s apartment, they knocked on the door and window and when Scovotti did not answer, they started calling his name.

Prosecutors believe that Brancato and Armento went to the apartment to rob Scovotti.  Officer Enchautegui, Scovotti’s next-door neighbor, heard the noise and went to investigate, and that is when he was shot.

When asked by his attorney if he was “dope sick” he replied, “Yes. I needed something. I needed something……I was now becoming dope sick more and more and more as time went on.  I was withdrawing from crack and heroin and got the shakes and hot flashes and even my hair was hurting.”

The slain officer’s family dismissed Brancato’s testimony and said it scripted.  They believe Brancato went to Scovotti’s apartment to rob the drug dealer.
