 Mild Steel

Mild steel generally refers to low carbon steels that has good strength and it can be bent, worked or can be welded into various shapes.

This is most common form of steel available in the marketplace. It’s hard and available at a cheaper rate. Increasingly used when large quantities of steel are required.

Mild Steel is basically a carbon steel with a 0.25% Carbon and 0.4%-0.7% Manganese, 0.1%-0.5% Silicon with inclusion of some other elements like phosphorous. Also includes Lead and Sulphur.

In fact mild steel generally refers to low carbon steels that has good strength and it can be bent, worked or can be welded into various shapes. The products made from mild steel are used in cars and ships and to build materials, pots and pans.

As the carbon content of the steel rises, the metal becomes harder and stronger and therefore becomes very difficult to weld. So if you need steel that is workable then opt for a product with lower carbon content.

As mild steel comprises an array of low carbon steel products, mild steel suppliers will be able to give right suggestions on the right product for your needs. Actually the composition of the product including the percentage of carbon, manganese and silicon has a potential effect on the strength and hardness of the product which in turn will help the buyer in determining its usage.

Mild steel suppliers may also deal in products with a lead or sulphur content.
