The bonding between a brother and a sister is perhaps one of the noblest bonding of human relations. Rakhi is one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals that uphold this emotional bonding. Every year it is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of August. Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan, as it is known in some parts of India, is an occasion in which a sister ties a holy thread on the wrist of her brother. This holy thread which vibrates with the chord of sisterly love and affection, is believed to protect her brother against all odds. This celebration of unconditional attachment always involves exchange of rakhi gifts. |
