Nokia & Intel: Creating mobile computing products together

Two giant companies, NOKIA Corporation which has a 40% share of the handset in the market and INTEL Corporation the world's largest maker of computer chips decided to work together on Tuesday June, 2009. They told that they are planning to create mobile computing products jointly that would make better features of computers and cell phones.

Executives from both the companies told at a news conference that they pledge to produce mobile devices that would have Internet access and run on Intel chips as cell phones are becoming like computers. Kai Oistamo, an executive vice president at Nokia told during the news conference that they are exploring new ideas in sizes, shapes, materials and display it.

Intel sells majority of chips that go into computer servers and PCs in California and Santa Clara while Nokia produces the most of the cell phones in Finland and Espoo, so both the companies have to gain or loss from this new era of products as any other technology companies.

Intel has spent few years and spent money into Atom, a chip that it hopes will secure a prominent place for the company in the cell phone market but the efforts of the company are failed to crack the cell phone business and most smartphones work today on a rival chip architecture called ARM. Now Intel is growing higher in the market. Nokia is growing more in the smartphone market.

After the announcement of Nokia and Intel to jointly make products and the prices of shares of both the companies went up. Intel company shares in Santa Clara, California went up 13 cents and closed on Tuesday at $15.81 while Nokia in Espoo, Finland rise at 38 cents and close at $14.46.
