The original name of Florida Central Credit Union was Tampa Central Credit Union. Florida Central Credit Union was founded in 1958. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, the state of Florida was appealed by Florida Central Credit Union for a community charter for Hillsborough and other surrounding counties permitting anyone who lives or works in those counties to connect the credit union. In 2006, look and feel of Florida Central Credit Union was refurbished by Florida Central with a new branding campaign which included making Florida Central Credit Union into Florida central Credit Union. Branch restorations were made by the Florida central and a few branches to new locations repositioned by it.
